This past spring the North Thompson Communities Foundation was given a very unique opportunity to participate in the Community Prosperity Fund. This investment from the Government of British Columbia empowered local Community Foundations to make decisions affecting their communities. We looked at the needs of charities and non profits which were addressing poverty reduction and social inclusion in the North Thompson and with this prospective we have been able to offer multi-year operational grants for those applicants doing this vital work.The Foundation is pleased to award the following four grants for the purpose of supporting organizational needs and operational expenses.Yellowhead Community Services $88,556YCS strives to provide supports and services to individuals of all ages through a variety of mostly free services to those residing in the North Thompson. Funding will be used to support child care, food security, and Literacy programs as well as housing operations for families, seniors and the disabled.British Columbia Agricultural Exposition Society $5000The BC Ag Expo Society hosts the annual fall Fair in Barriere which works to support and promote agriculture through its youth and 4H participants. This event promotes inclusion and is committed to a community for everyone. Funding will be used to support professional planning to ensure the success and stability of the fair for years to come.Blue River Powder Packers Society $28,444Blue River relies heavily on winter tourism to help support community growth. With a need to look at the present grooming situation for trails this award from the Prosperity Fund will be used to train a new operator and provide a salary for one year.Barriere Recreation Society $33,000The Recreation Society has seen a very substantial increase in utility costs. This year the North Thompson Communities Foundation created a Bursary for two students, one graduating from Barriere and one for a Clearwater grad. The first recipient in Barriere of the NTCF Bursary is Cohen Hunt. Cohen will be attending TRU in the fall for his Bachelor of Science degree.
